The European universities’ consortium partnering in the SumHEIS project is glad to announce the achievement and publication of the first results (i.e. IO1). Here, in what can be considered one of the first efforts in this respect, academic summers schools’ main features are outlined. Namely, after a review and field data collection, a definition and characterization of what summer schools are being provided. In addition, future opportunities and challenges for summer schools organizers are presented based on the partners’ experiences. All this material is expected to contribute to the advancement of science in summer schools, and to help any organization who desires to plan and offer a summer school. The final document will be published soon on the project’s website!
